Restore the substrate before applying protection
For a refurbishment project, distinguish sound concrete from loose, cracked or deteriorated areas before selecting a waterproofing finish. Record repair depth and extent, and identify exposed reinforcement for assessment. The finish depends on the prepared base; it should not conceal unresolved substrate defects.
